Open Day At The Wharf

Be part of Sydney's Arts Precinct opening their doors to the public this Sunday December 5 from 10am-4pm at Pier 4/5 Hickson Road Walsh Bay.

Dance, sing, paint, act and play: you can participate in free forums and workshops, take a tour or just go ‘behind-the-scenes’ at your leisure.

You can join in on 30 min introduction ballet, Hip-Hop or jazz class with the Sydney Dance Company, take part in a Workshop with the Bangarra Dance Company or even watch an excerpt from 6 breaths choreographed by Rafael Bonachela and performed by the Sydney Dance Company.

The Dogs are returning

We can all remember our first Tap Dog experience in the mid nineties when the Dogs did their first tour of Australia.

The famous Tap Dogs are back in 2011 with the same amount, if not more of blood, sweat and tears put into a sensational 80 minute non-stop routine.

Tickets are now on sale, so don't miss out on seeing their return.

Great Chinese State Circus- Swan Lake

One of our fans all the way from NZ told us about this video and thought we should share it with the rest of our wonderful fans.

It is a 4 min video of the Great Chinese State Circus doing their take on the famous ballet production Swan Lake and is with one of the most amazing pas de deux we have ever seen.

La Danse preview

La Danse is a documentary based on the master director Frederick Wiseman's with filming behind the scenes of rehearsals and performances by the Paris Opera Ballet including Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker.
As well as the amazing dancers involved, the film shows the collaborative efforts of all the other people helping get these productions on stage from the choreographers to the musicians, costume, set and lighting designers.

This film is a must see and is only showing for an exclusive season at the Chauvel Cinema in Paddington, Sydney.

We went and saw the recently released musical FAME.
The show was amazing and from our front row seats we saw all the action nice and close.
It was a full house with great choreography from the one and only Kelley Abbey and lots of familiar faces from previous seasons of SYTYCD, Fame was a real crowd pleaser.

We love finding up and coming dancers with amazing talent.

Davey's Dance Blog

We love checking out fellow dance bloggers and we came across Davey who came up with idea when he was travelling Europe to pick a location and record a improvised dance routine.

Here is an example of his work and check out his site for more dance routines from all over the world.

6 year old Hip hop dancer

Check out this video of 6 year old hip hop dancer Tanner Edwards who was a guest on today's Ellen Show.
This kid has talent and he definitely has a great future ahead of him.

Dance like MJ

Check out the trailer for the new Wii dance game that all Michael Jackson fans have being waiting for- "Michael Jackson the Experience".

You will learn famous MJ dance moves to more than 25 of his greatest hits.

The game will be available on Nintendo Wii from November 25.

Philippe and the Giant Earthmover

We went to see French Performer Philippe Priasso's dance performance with a giant earth mover on Friday, his dance duet with a difference is part of the Spring Dance Festival.
The weather held up as Phillipe performed his 20 minute routine to dramatic music with elements of acrobatics and risky dance moves on and around the heavy duty machine.

Dancing at the Movies

Check out this 4 minute collaborative video of dance scenes from over 40 dance movies that has hit our screens. There are clips from classics like Dirty Dancing and Fred and Ginger to more recent flicks like Step up and Honey.

Black Swan

Black Swan is a dance thriller based on the Famous ballet production "Swan lake" where a ballerina is totally consumed by dance, from her obsessive mother to her rivals. Black Swan is directed by well known director Darren Aronofsky.

Some big name actress' like the main character Natalie Portman and Winona Ryder star is the film.
Black Swan is a little bit of change from the feel good dance flicks that have been hitting our screens the past few years.

An Australian release of Black Swan will be announced soon.

Interview with Lily Spencer

We were lucky enough to interview 16 year old Queensland ballerina Lily Spencer, who is currently studying at the Royal Ballet School in London. Check out the interview.

How old were you when you started ballet and what is one of your fondest memories from your early training?
I started ballet when i was 5 years old and will always remember the many times i performed on stage in front of my friends and family, and seeing how proud they were.

Where and how long have you been studying Full Time?
I started full-time training in 2008 at The Royal Ballet School in London.

If you weren't a ballerina what would you like to be doing instead?
I love to play the violin, so perhaps become a musician in an Orchestra.

What is you favourite Ballet?
Both Don Quixote and Swan lake because Kitri in Don Quixote is a fiery character just like me when i dance, and Odette in Swan Lake has beautiful long extensions.

What or who inspires you?
My older sister Georgina inspires me as i always wanted to be just like her when i was younger.

What advice would you offer to dancers wanting to follow in you footsteps?
Take risks, because i believe that all the hurdles which come before us are meant to be leapt over, rather than stop us or slow us down.

We loved chatting with lily, she is such a beautiful dancer and we wish her all the best for the an amazing future ahead of her.

Work in progress

Sorry we have been a little slack with posts lately but we have been working on some very exciting new projects and we will be getting back on track very soon.

In the meantime check out the Spring Dance Festival link and the Spring Dance Calendar below and start planning. The festival starts next Tuesday August 31 and is running until September 26. This great event showcasing some of the World's finest dancers and choreographers should not be missed. Keep an eye out for some of the Pointed Toes Team.

It is one of our favourite times of year again and there is nothing better than a nice night out at Sydney's Opera house.

We had great seats to this years Mcdonald's Ballet Scholarship and the team enjoyed every minute of the event from the 8 soloists performances to the final 8 Open Age jazz groups.

We would like to say big congratulations to the outright winner of the Mcdonald's Ballet Scholarship Jordan Mullin and to the runner up Evan Loudon.
Also congratulations to Brent Street Studios for winning 1st and 3rd in the Open Jazz finals and also to the Australian Dance performance Institute for their 2nd place.

We are looking forward to next years Mcdonald's Ballet Scholarship as every year gets more and more exciting!!!
