Twister Action Painting

                                  

French breakdancer and concept artist Sami "Twister" Amdouni has created an artisitic and innovative performance piece called "Klein's Anthropometry with bboying flava" .

This is a great video and really shows breakdancing in a different way.

Bangarra Dance Theatre are a prestigious dance company that combine traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with International contemporary dance .
Their production True Stories is a two part show with uplifting and inspiring choreography by Elma Kris.
Bangarra Dance Theatre are coming to Sydneys Northern Beaches and are only doing limited season and tickets are selling fast.

The creative crutch dance

             

Hip hop artist RJD2 teamed up with dance and media artist Bill Shannon and creative director Joey Garfield to create a contemporary dance installation called "Work it out". Bill Shannon was born with a degenerative hip condition and developed a way to express himself through dance (and even skateboarding) on crutches. 
This is a really inspiring video and you could watch him for hours.

Flash mob

                       
Over 400 strangers including tourists and staff at Liverpool Street station entertained commuters with a 2 minute choreographed mixed dance routine of hip-hop, ballroom and jazz.
The stunt which is called "flash mobbing" was an advert for T-mobile.
Its a great video and makes you want to get up and dance.

Longest Row of Dancers


Last week the dancers of the Friedrichstadtpalast music hall in Berlin, where actress
Marlene Dietrich made her debut, were attempting to break the record of the longest row of dancers sitting in a row. The record attempt was sponsored by a local radio station.

Superstars of Dance


The creators of "So you think you can Dance" Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller have created another reality dance show called "Superstars of Dance".

Superstars of Dance is a world wide contest where dance troupes from all over the world compete against one another. The show is hosted by Michael Flatley ( Lord of The Dance) and the eight countries scheduled to participate are Ireland, India, USA, Argentina, China, Russia, South Africa and Australia. Each team will be comprised of two soloists, one duo and one larger group. Should be worth a look, check it out on when it premiers later in the year.

Sydney Festival 2009 opening night



Sydney Festival 2009 started with a bang, with nearly 300,000 people making their way onto the city for the opening night. The night saw great performances from the likes of Grace Johns and Santogold and a great performance by the crowd, getting involved with 'the Sydney' Dance. Hope you made it in on the night, but don't worry if you didn't the festivals runs all month.

15th Showcase National Dance Championships

Showcase is the largest Dance Championships for Theatrical Dance in Australia, with all styles of Dance including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary, Song and Dance and Cheerleading. Dancers can enter as a Solo, Duo/Trio or as a Group. The age divisions start from 5 years and under and up to 26 years and over.
Showcase are celebrating their 15 year anniversary and with over 4,000 participants and more than 100 dance studios competing for the prize of $30,000 it will be an exciting event.

Movers and Shakers is directed by Nigel Jamieson and is an exciting free dance event that is part of The Sydney Festival 2009 . Movers and Shakers is the main dance event with over 300 dancers performing from some of Australia’s leading dance companies on a custom built, five-storey-high stage in the centre of Martin Place. The performers will dance works choreographed by Shaun Parker,The Fondue Set and many other great Australian Choreographers. The program will also include contributions from some of Sydney’s best krumpers and breakers aswell as some amazing visuals displayed around Martin Place’s heritage streetscape.
Also to celebrate Movers and Shakers, Sydney Festival is giving away the ultimate prize pack.

Margot Fonteyne was arguably the greatest ballerina of her time,  and she was still dancing at the age of 67.
Margot the documentary shows her extraordinary life and dancing career that spanned over three decades. The documentary was directed by Tony Palmer and screened on the ABC last year (April 2008). Don't miss out as Margot screens for six sessions only from January 9- 14.

Sydney Festival 2009

The Sydney Festival is on again for another year. This year, along with all the usual performing artists and shows, there is a huge dance routine that will take place. The Dance is called 'The Sydney', it was choreographed by Australian Dance Theatre, and the festival organisers hope that 250 000 people will take part in it. It is a basic 45 second dance that will be taught on the night, or you can learn it at home before hand. Come and join in on the fun on the 10th of January at many sites throughout the CBD.

Dance Crew Competition

Optus in conjunction with the TV show "So you think you can dance"  is giving Dance crews and Dance schools the opportunity to show off their dancing talents and have a chance to win $ 5,000 to invest towards new dance equipment, costumes or a studio revamp.
Each of the three finalists will also receive a special visit from some of the "So you think you can dance" production crew with the visit being broadcast on TV during the 2009 season that commences Sunday February 1, 2009.
