Royal Ballet in Cuba

Photo: Carlos Acosta rehearsing at the Royal Ballet

The Royal Ballet will be visting Cuba for the first time in July with performances that play homage to Cuban Ballet legend Alicia Alonso.

The Cuban visit also came about as one of the Royal Ballet's principal dancers Carlos Acosta would love to perform in his home Country and it would be the highlight of his career.

The company will bring 96 dancers to Havana and is scheduled to perform four pieces, one of which will be a tribute to Alonso and will also include dancers from the Cuban National Ballet.

Arabesque Shadow

We found this great photograph by Brooklyn based Freelance Photographer Katie Sokoler.

Project Shadow was cut and paste installation by the Katie where she taped paper cutouts to sidewalks and walls all over Brooklyn.

The team at Pointed Toes especially loved "Arabesque Shadow" as it brings out the ballerina in us all.

Miss Darcey

Darcey Bussell is regarded as one of the world's greatest ballerinas and former principal of London's Royal Ballet. Darcey retired two years ago and moved to Sydney to raise her young family and is now the director of the Sydney Dance Company.

She has had nothing to do with horse racing previously but agreed to an unusual request by racehorse owner Graeme Phillips to allow him to name his horse " Miss Darcey" after the amazing ballerina.

Following on from the naming of Miss Darcey, Julie Sampson, a part-owner of Miss Darcey, has called a filly Red Pointes after Darcey Bussell's famous ballet shoes.
