Untrained is choreographed by Lucy Guerin and consists of two professional dancers who perform a series of steps and beside them are two people with no dance experience what so ever and they attempt the same dance moves.

Untrained began as a one-week "experiment" in July 2007 but turned into a performance. After premiering at Dance Massive in Melbourne, Untrained is now coming to Sydney and as part of the Spring Dance festival that starts this Thursday 27th August at the Sydney Opera House.

Spring Dance is 4 weeks of Artistry, Athleticism and Grace from some of the most exciting and exceptional choreographers and performers from around the world.

The season features the finest in flamenco from Eva Yerbabuena , free films on the forecourt (including Fame and West Side Story), a global dance competition (MyMutation), free artist talks and a program of five cutting-edge contemporary performances (including Meryl Tankard and The Sydney Dance Company).

Dance Flick is almost here!!

The creators of ‘Scary Movie’ and ‘White Chicks’ have released a hilarious new send up of a ballerina meets a street dancer mixed with a youth musical and takes a satirical jab at classic dance movies such as ‘Step Up’, ‘You Got Served, ’ and ‘Flashdance’.

Dance Flick is coming to Australia and will be showing at Cinemas from Thursday August 2oth.

Cheerleading State Championships

NSW Gymnastics presents the Cheerleading State Championships. Cheerleading is an exciting gym and dance sport for all ages that involves music, dance, cheers, tumbling and stunts. Cheerleading is a great way to learn Leadership, teamwork and also an excellent form of exercise.

Crawford in Training for Footloose

Gossip Girl star Chase Crawford has already started training for the upcoming remake of the 1984 classic dance flick "Footloose", where he plays the role of Ren McCormack, originally played by Kevin Bacon.

The shooting for the movie is planned to begin next March 2010 but Crawford has already hired a dance trainer to learn the right dance steps and wants to get as much training as he can within next 9 months before filming starts.

The Results!

The Pointed Toes team attended last night the annual McDonald's Ballet Scholarship at the Sydney Opera house.

It was a spectacular evening with great results and some amazing talent.

The outright winner who scored a total of $18,000 worth of prizes was Lachlan Monaghan from N.S.W and the Runner up who receives a total of $12,000 worth of prizes was female dancer Serena Green from N.S.W

The Open Jazz winners were:

• 1st Place- Ev and Bow Fulltime Training Centre (Kirrawee)
• 2nd Place- Marie Walton-Mahon Dance Academy (Lambton)
• 3rd Place- Brent Street Studios B (Moore Park)

Pointed Toes would like to congratulate all the finalists and dancers for such a inspiring night and we are looking forward to next years event.

MyMutation

MyMutation is a worldwide online dance competition created by Amazing choreographer Kelley Abbey and gives competitors a chance to perform live at The Sydney Opera House.

Choreographer Kelley Abbey has created a dance solo, performed by Reed Luplau. This is the start of a two part challenge. You have to create your own take on the solo and then continue in your own unique style.

You have to submit you video entries before the 10th August 2009.

The winner will receive an expense paid trip to Sydney and will work with Kelley Abbey to perform live at The Sydney Opera House 26th and 27th September 2009. The winner will also receive other great prizes including $2000 cash.

Pointed Toes posted an article back in March about the Mcdonald's Ballet Scholarship, well the time has come and is on this Sunday 2nd August at the Sydney Opera House.

We hope you got tickets as it is a great night and is wonderful showcase for some amazing talented dancers.

SYTYCD USA reaches 100th Episode

This week "So You Think You Can Dance" USA celebrates the dance competition's 100th episode.

The judges are excited about the special 100th episode, with the best routines from all the previous seasons and also a pre-recorded performance by Actress Katie Holmes paying tribute to Judy Garland.

We are looking forward in seeing the 100th episode when it is televised in Australia.

DYAO

Dance you Ass off is a new reality Television series from the US that premieres in Australia on Channel 9 this Tuesday night.

The series features 12 Finalists in a combination of Dancing with the Stars mixed with The Biggest Loser and is hosted by Hairspray actress Marissa Winokur.

Each contestant is paired with a professional dance partner and will train for weekly stage performances ranging from Hip Hop, to Ballroom and even Pole Dancing.

Judges will score routines as contestants weigh in to reveal their weekly weight loss. The dance score and the weight loss are combined for an overall elimination score.

Fame in London

Stars transformed the city of London into downtown Manhattan and recreated the famous street dance sequence from musical "Fame".

Actress Denise Van Outen and comedian Johnny Vegas were backed by over 1,000 dancers and even members of the public were invited to join in on the event which took place in Worship Street, near Liverpool Street station.

The stunt was organised by TV channel Turner Classic Movies as part of its 'Capture Your Classic' campaign, asking members of the public to re-make scenes from their favourite films.

Michael Jackson has inspired a number of people all over the World with his amazing talent and one group in particular are the 1,500 inmates at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in this island province in the Philippines.

The inmates have been famous since their debut video of "Thriller" was released on Youtube in 2007.

Since Jacksons passing the inmates have done a tribute routine that required nine hours of rehearsal, stopping only to eat or when rain started to pour.

Check out both these videos, the inmates have done a great job paying tribute to the "King of Pop".
