Cirque du Soleil are holding auditions here in Australia and has over 150 dance roles, they are looking for performers who will get the opportunity to work with some amazing choreographers such as Wade Robson, Bonnie Story, Daniel Ezralow and Philippe Decouflé.

They are seeking professional dancers from all genres from Classical, contemporary, Hip hop, ethnic and Jazz.

MJ Medley

Since the passing of Michael Jackson a few months ago, there has been a number of artists and performers who have been so inspired by MJ's music and have to wanted to express their own take on his work.

We found this great video of two performers Sam Tsui and Kurt Schneider who have done a Capella medley of a number of MJ's songs from Thriller to Man in the Mirror.

There isn't any dance moves in the video but the Pointed Toes team loved the medley so much that we could imagine a great dance routine choreographed to it.

Farewell Patrick

It has been over a week know since the passing of amazing entertainer Patrick Swayze who lost his 20 month battle with pancreatic cancer at age 57.

We will remember him as the star of some of the most famous movies to hit cinemas, from the great dance flick Dirty Dancing where he played Johnny Castle to the tear-jerker Ghost where he played Sam Wheat.

Patrick will greatly be missed by all.

Hiroaki Umeda and The Spring Dance Festival

Hiroaki Umeda is the internationally acclaimed Japanese choreographer, dancer and visual artist.

Umdea is part of the Spring Dance Festival and will present two of his signature works.

Umeda draws upon ballet, hip-hop and butoh and he creates an amazing fusion of Dancing.

NIDA and Fame

NIDA is giving people the opportunity to attend the World Premiere of FAME the re-make.

If you are lucky enough to get a ticket to the Premiere you will walk the red carpet and sit along side some of the Entertainment Industries finest from the Head of Acting at NIDA Tony Knight to the "So you think you can dance" judge Matt Lee.

The World Premiere of FAME is at the Dendy Opera Quays on Tuesday 22 September with kick off starting at 6:15pm.

Don't miss out on getting tickets as this is a once in a life time opportunity and what is even better is that the tickets are only $25.

But if you do miss out on the Premiere don't worry as FAME will be showing in Cinemas from Thursday 24 September.

D.4.Y.L is coming to OZ

American Choreographers Brandon Barton and Ramon Baynes have just finished touring Australia with the Pussycat Dolls this year and are now planning on setting up a Dance Company called "Dance 4 Yor Life" (D.4.Y.L) in Sydney.

The Duo have worked with a range of artists including Britney Spears, Beyonce and Janet Jackson just to name a few.

They will be holding dance workshops throughout Australia. So check out their website www.d4yl.com for details on classes coming to your nearest city.

Mao's Last Dancer Movie

Mao's Last Dancer is one of best -selling autobiographies ever sold and was written by Li Cunxin (who was also named "Father of the year" last week) where he tells his amazing story from starting as a poor Chinese boy to becoming an International ballet star.

The film is directed by Australian director Bruce Beresford and was filmed in China, USA and Australia.

Mao's Last Dancer will be in cinemas from October 1.

Untrained is choreographed by Lucy Guerin and consists of two professional dancers who perform a series of steps and beside them are two people with no dance experience what so ever and they attempt the same dance moves.

Untrained began as a one-week "experiment" in July 2007 but turned into a performance. After premiering at Dance Massive in Melbourne, Untrained is now coming to Sydney and as part of the Spring Dance festival that starts this Thursday 27th August at the Sydney Opera House.

Dance Flick is almost here!!

The creators of ‘Scary Movie’ and ‘White Chicks’ have released a hilarious new send up of a ballerina meets a street dancer mixed with a youth musical and takes a satirical jab at classic dance movies such as ‘Step Up’, ‘You Got Served, ’ and ‘Flashdance’.

Dance Flick is coming to Australia and will be showing at Cinemas from Thursday August 2oth.

NSW Gymnastics presents the Cheerleading State Championships. Cheerleading is an exciting gym and dance sport for all ages that involves music, dance, cheers, tumbling and stunts. Cheerleading is a great way to learn Leadership, teamwork and also an excellent form of exercise.

Crawford in Training for Footloose

Gossip Girl star Chase Crawford has already started training for the upcoming remake of the 1984 classic dance flick "Footloose", where he plays the role of Ren McCormack, originally played by Kevin Bacon.

The shooting for the movie is planned to begin next March 2010 but Crawford has already hired a dance trainer to learn the right dance steps and wants to get as much training as he can within next 9 months before filming starts.

The Results!

The Pointed Toes team attended last night the annual McDonald's Ballet Scholarship at the Sydney Opera house.

It was a spectacular evening with great results and some amazing talent.

The outright winner who scored a total of $18,000 worth of prizes was Lachlan Monaghan from N.S.W and the Runner up who receives a total of $12,000 worth of prizes was female dancer Serena Green from N.S.W

The Open Jazz winners were:

• 1st Place- Ev and Bow Fulltime Training Centre (Kirrawee)
• 2nd Place- Marie Walton-Mahon Dance Academy (Lambton)
• 3rd Place- Brent Street Studios B (Moore Park)

Pointed Toes would like to congratulate all the finalists and dancers for such a inspiring night and we are looking forward to next years event.
